  • Issues of Substance Conference 2017

    ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Issues of Substance (IOS) is Canada's only national conference that brings together addiction workers, healthcare professionals, researchers, policy makers and knowledge brokers from across the country. This premier learning event provides an unparalleled opportunity to share new developments and best practices, and to get practical training related to prevention, treatment and recovery. IOS is also a forum for showcasing new research and knowledge mobilization efforts in the addiction field.

  • U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse International Forum
    June 16–19, 2017

    ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​CCSA is co-sponsoring the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Forum in 2017, taking place in Montreal, Quebec. The research symposium, poster session and network-building activities highlight the range of substance use research conducted around the world. Participants also have the opportunity to learn about NIDA fellowships and other programs that can support international collaborations. This year's theme is marijuana and driving, and the three-day forum will feature presentations about the latest research into this global public-health challenge.

  • Third International Symposium on Drug-Impaired Driving
    October 23, 2017, Lisbon

    ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Third International Symposium on Drug-Impaired Driving is a collaborative effort between the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse and the New Zealand Drug Foundation.

    This international symposium will put the spotlight on key developments relevant to road safety in recent years and highlight the implications of these developments for drug-impaired driving. The objective of the symposium is to bring together key stakeholders who have advanced the field to share their experiences and lessons learned and to develop next steps to effectively address drug-impaired driving. The symposium will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the field, highlight new research and identify gaps still needing attention.

This year’s annual Institute features the following presentations: • “The Modern Opioid Pandemic or Opioid Dependence, Treatment and Pharmacotherapies ” Jordan Anderson RP, ICADC, OSC • “Food and Mood: Nutrition and Mental Health”: Ian Robertson MSW, RSW • “Medical Marijuana: Cure or Curse”: Ron Elliott R.Ph., B.Sc.Phm. • “Practical Tips from Addiction Psychiatry”: Beth Reade MD, FRCPC • “Trauma, Abuse and Addiction” : Linda Antoniazzi, MSW, RSW, CTS, CTR • Keynote Speaker: Laura Bhoi BA(hon), MBA, CEO of Renascent Treatment Centre: “Potential For Change” • Plenary Session Speaker: SoCirC (Social Circus Circle): SoCirC (Social Circus Circle) is a Toronto based charitable organization that uses the social circus modality to provide social development and support for young people on the margins, 14-29 years old. • Workshops on Self-Harm, Teachings of the Medicine Wheel, Yoga and PTSD, substance abuse and eating disorders, crystal meth, ethical dilemmas in addiction counselling, intervening on the adolescent substance user and many more. All workshops and presentations attended at the Annual Institute on Addiction Studies conference are preapproved for core Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF). Participants may also apply for CEUs through their own professional associations and certification bodies.
